It has always been the elephant in the room for most of my key stage 4 pupils that are trying to move above that C border (and for too many above that line).
My question is - Do pupils leave Primary confident about their times tables? (I have always assumed they do, certainly my experience through my son is they do a lot of practise and are thorough in both their teaching and assessment).
If they do, then where and why are we losing that confidence in key stage 3?
This strategy is not about teaching times tables facts in every lesson, but providing the opportunity for them to be used implicitly in other tasks and to give pupils that regularity of practise time.
